The age of digging through CD bins at the local music store may be long gone. Our store has become much bigger and offers many more modes for listening. Do we want these songs physically on our computers, taking up hard drive space but linking to our ipods? Do we want to stream new music online as we browse websites? Do we want music downloads from websites or from our peers? Or do we want to make play-lists of our favorite songs to post on our social networking pages? As you can see, it takes a music guide to get you through this muck of online music options.

Myspace (www.myspace.com) quickly became one of the best sources of free music. In fact, many bands shut down their websites completely and relied solely on this social networking site to list their gigs and post new music. You can use their music guide to look for local music, bands that sound like other bands you like or music from a certain genre. On many pages, you can also buy music for 99 cents a song. The benefit of Myspace is the ability to listen to a number of songs by a particular artist, while also gaining access to music news, blogs, videos, photos, tour dates, merchandise and more. The downside is that you can’t usually save these songs on your computer; it’s mostly a streaming site, but sometimes you can save select songs or make them play on your Myspace page with a single click.

Another great resource in our music guide is Pandora Radio (www.pandora.com). This website has been dubbed “the music genome project” because it contains a vast wealth of famous music artists and new independent bands meticulously filed into categories based on melody, harmony, rhythm, instrumentation, arrangement and lyrics. Registration is free and supported by an occasional ad here and there, but users can type in a band or a song they like to get a whole personalized radio station created for them based on their favorites. Users can then give songs a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” to further tailor the station to their interests. The site proves to be a great way to find new music and also buy music, as you can bookmark songs and purchase them through Amazon.

Another indie artist music guide is Amie Street (www.amiestreet.com). This recommendation website works off your preferences and allows you to import data from your iTunes library, your Last FM feed, your Pandora radio preferences and favorite music from Facebook. After analyzing your music preferences, the site will offer similar recommendations, allowing you to rate those recommendations. The benefit is that you can find a lot of new music and buy music legally. The downside is just that you have to buy many of the tracks, although some come as cheap as 2? apiece.

You know what I think by all of this. Sit and think about it for a moment: you sat on the cast up late one night, following E! or a similar carry, and speculative how it was that circles with such huge cult pursual have all appeared to disappear. (You were watching that factual on the Glad Dead-weren’t you?)

Or maybe you’re in the boat with those who still do accompany some ring or other-but we’ll talk almost you in a moment. See, free mp3 downloads have varied the cult coming to circles and how much someones succeed them.

Think about how pricey it is for bands to tour without a major label and the entire weight of the euphony business concern motorcar free music downloads foothold the bill. Let’s think about how that ponders in everything else: how pricy have concert slates become for consumers? It’s kind of screaming, all taken so by free mp3 downloads. It’s especially ridiculous in the concert scene when you realize you can get virtually of the highlighting on YouTube for next to nothing. Gone are the days of arriving to the show days early to park your VW bus, camp out, hook up and tune out. Arrived are the days of downloading everything fast and furiously, free mp3 downloads staining out every otherwise option.

Let’s talk specifics. For dance orchestras like Phish, Enjoyable Dead, Blues Traveler, and others, the Net doesn’t make in-person attendance a demand to be part of the scene. Blogs and RSS courses let people climb right on the bandwagon without anybody straight on top to toss of the freeloaders. As a result, there is less of a public vibe in general because of these artificial and virtual residential areas. Newer music fans aren’t as involved about virtuoso euphony performances-they don’t care if instrumentalists even really PLAY instrumentate at all-and, in fact, parody is fine, too.

Free mp3 downloads and other new engineering science have brought a lot of this about. Let’s take, for example, the fact that anybody with a webcam and a Casio can be an Internet rock star-I’m thinking of that band (maybe called GO! . . . ?) who winning that video that had all of the band fellow members singing the song on tread-wheel doing a ridiculous routine (all extremely well-executed), choreographed by the lead singer’s sister. The lead singer’s sister! Not even a band member-but she was like police chief of her high educate drill team or something. Next matter you knew, they were on the Weekly Show and the Colbert Report. Now, conceded, it was actually a really cute birdcall and the video did basically rock-but it was the visuals that literally sold the band.

There’s a new Rhythm and Blues artist who just came into public view who makes hot new music, and he is shaking up everyone’s notions of what radio friendly, r&b, or pop tunes can be like. Traditionally, pop music has been thought of as fun fluff - meaning, it’s like cotton candy. Pleasant and fun for the moment but not what would be described as meaningful or substantial.

It generally focuses on a few ubiquitous subjects, such as falling in love or out of love, and it relies on about fifty rhyming words which show up in the millions of tunes put out by the hundreds of singers which all sound precisely the same (for example, “love” and “above” - you get the idea). This is the kind of music you would use if you had a personal trainer certification and teach an aerobics class. On the opposite extreme, you have what one would think of be described} as serious music. This would encompass types of music such as jazz or classical, or even lyrically witty and more grown up style bands such as Dave Matthews band. This genre is awesome, but is not what would be thought of as fun, or the type of music that would make you get up and dance. There’s serious music and then there’s fun music - and never the twain shall meet. Until now.

With his hit single Big for Me, Jd Webb is shifting those concepts and labels around. Prior to being given the review copy of Jd Webb’s Big for Me as a niche marketing webmaster with many music sites, admittedly, I was thinking it would be your usual R&B dance jam. “I give it a 10, it’s got a good beat, you can dance to it,” type of music. And Big for Me definitely is danceable fun for your iPod or for the club, to be sure. But it also explores a deeper idea. It’s not just about that overwhelming feeling of first attraction - it’s about a protagonist who is surprised when seeing himself making considerations in his life to accommodate his love interest and be more conducive to their shared life. It’s not his usual behavior, which is the reason he says, “That’s Big for Me.”

The song takes the idea of falling in love and explores it in a way that is deeper and more fascinating than the surface. And any person that’s been in love can tell you that the emotions on that level of love are just as strong and just as wonderful as the first attraction - actually, more so! In the same way, Webb’s music has taken the Pop genre and taken it to a level that’s deeper and more interesting. And, just like love itself, that’s made it so much fuller and richer - and infinitely better.

For those who love music, music is a way of life. They do everything with joy. However, little mention of all the investment we have going for playing music.

“What we have to invest now for learning music and guitar?”

1. Time.
If the day we learn the guitar at least three hours in the period of 10 years, we spent 10,800 hours.

Including time for exercise band, the time for the stage, the time for the record, the time for the meeting, the time to looking for information, the time to gather with community, time to dream up ’till can not sleep, etc.. Imagine how many hours that we have invest for the music and guitar?

2. Money.
How much money we have locate to the guitar and music? How much money have we spend to buy the guitar, to buy securities, amplie, computer, ipod, cassette, CD, rent the studio, recording, shirt, pants, shoes, accessories, costumes, to stylist, gasoline, studying music, pay teachers tutoring, etc. ?

Sacrifice that we do indeed quite large. This is an investment that is extraordinary. We did not realize it. We do so with joy, so do not realize that we have been doing a lot of sacrifice. Time, money, praise, mortification, sometimes even up to high fellowship as a result of different vision or various other reasons, be it from a friend or fellow band oang with the other.

If the orientation we want to have a successful bands such as The Beatles try to imagine all the sacrifice we have done it when the demo that we have rejected a producer …

What have we done? Playing with fire? Maybe, because, Ironically, only some bands are successful. All the time and money that has disappeared when we invest failed, or stop in the middle of the road.

The fact, many people at risk of hunger is hunger even in music, although of course there has been a remarkable success, and only those who have been successful as this can be the inspiration for those who still struggle under.

This is a frightening picture if we choose a career in music. We must know the reality experiences in music is not as easy as people think (may be …). Do not we see the success of what has been exposed. Struggle for up to the peak that is not exposed in the media need to make reference and valuable lesson for us as a new starter. Each band has a successful process and a long struggle.

Perhaps there can be a lucky hit directly-Let without a significant struggle. Is there? Perhaps there. But we never know what are they doing at the top. The more successful the more struggle to keep exist and accepted his community. Each band certainly does not want to boom only in they first album. They have certainly remain above the fight. They may have to reach success in the first album but also have in fear and asked how the second album if they do not behave, or perhaps some other reasons that make their career ends. We are all in the process of struggle, no matter whether we are successful or not so anything.

Career in music is full of vagaries. However, this applies not only in music. Every choice and decision always contain of risks. If we see only in the context of the scariest so we should be prepared to resign. We need to associate pleasure and success in the big disparities, greater than the pain during the tortuous and stir. The last, we need to ask ourselves whether the music that we really want?

Music Legend Comeback

My taste in music was pretty hip in my late teens, early twenties. It was really touch and go before that, depending on what my friends were liking at the time. After having children, I went through a long stretch of listening to only my existing cds or classic rock stations. It was easy and comfortable, I knew all the words already, and the classic rock reminded me of my childhood. A few years ago my children became old enough to discover their own musical tastes and were able to program an mp3 player. It was for them I decided to start listening to newer music. I was a little worried that I would hate everything I heard when I turned on my previous favourite alternative rock station.

I was extremely excited to discover that I heard two songs on the first day that I absolutely loved. I was very excited at still being cool enough to love the newest hippest music, and as soon as I got home I looked up the songs to find out what my new favourite bands were. (By the way, I could love the internet just for all the lyric sites! There were so many time that I have asked, “What’s that song? The one that goes “blah, blah, blah… You know?” It’s amazing! I can find out in seconds!)

My reaction? You have got to be joking. What do you mean Weezer?!?! Because, although I was delighted that this meant Weezer had a new album out, it didn’t really reinforce my “I’m still cool enough to like new music” theory, because technically I was probably just recognizing something I already loved. I had well-worn Weezer cds on my shelf from about TEN years ago.

The second song got my hopes up, because I had never heard of the Gorillaz, but upon further research I discovered the song, Feel good Inc. was a joint effort with one of my faves also from a decade ago, Blur and a band whose tape - that’s right, TAPE - that was given to me in grade 11, De La Soul.

Although I wasn’t exactly hip on the new music scene I definitely had really cool taste. And my children are already out in front. Last fall I joined them for their first concert: The Who - of course, a comeback band.

Speaking of comeback bands, a hot comeback band for 2008-2009: New Kids

I can’t help but laugh thinking about Jon Bon Jovi’s frosted hairdo he used to wear as I notice other women my age lusting over his comeback career.

Of course being a woman in denial of my increasing age, I am ecstatic that so many musicians are making their “revivals”. If they were and are still talented at what they do, by all means keep doing it!! It takes me back, and encourages me at the same time: If they can still rock, I can’t be THAT old.

I’m just waiting any day now to look over my daughter’s shoulder to see her searching for New Kids song lyrics or the like. I will make sure her dad isn’t listening and say, “It goes like this. I know all their lyrics. I attended their concert in grade nine.” I wish I would’ve kept my New Kids on the Block shirt!

Games such as the Guitar Hero series have inspired lots of people to learn to play the guitar properly , in addition to providing hours of fun. Music themed video games have become very common. The world of gaming keenly anticipates the release of the Battle of the Bands game for the Wii system. The game is right for one player or multi players. The game is to be published by THQ, sometime in 2008, and it has been developed by Planet Moon Studios. Practice makes just right and it may prove addictive! It doesn’t demand any musical knowledge and players of any standard will enjoy it.

A song in a certain genre is played for a short time period and changes from one style to another. The idea behind the game is for different genres of music to battle it out for supremacy. Battle of the Bands contains 30 songs played in five cover versions of different styles. The players must do their best to move the remote in time to the notes. As a result, the total is 150 songs. Players compete against each other, following the notes that appear on the screen. The winning player’s music will be the loudest, drowning out the rest. The player that performs the best will score more points, resulting in their chosen genre being played more.

There are three extra tracks with an orchestral backing. Anyone familiar with Guitar Hero will also like this game. Different features of the game have been added to make it more exciting . Players want to ruin it for the opposition and there are ‘weapons’, such as land mines and smoke bombs. The genres contained within Battle of the Bands are Rock, Country and Western, Funk/Hip-Hop, Marching Band and Latin. Gamers can also shrink notes or change them around. Wii will benefit from this clever game in the music themed sector, aimed at teenagers and young people. It takes a similar concept and adds a competitive edge with some fun obstacles thrown in.

KC and the Sunshine Band’s big hit, that’s the Way (I Like It) is also included . The 30 songs chosen for the game represent different styles of music and artists. There are old and newer acts, the most well-known being The Ramones and their track, Blitzkrieg Bop. Other tracks include Feel Good Inc by Gorillaz, Insane in the Brain by Cypress Hill and Master Exploder by Tenacious D. The Battle of the Bands is an established part of the MTV scene and it will shortly be part of the gaming fraternity.
