The age of digging through CD bins at the local music store may be long gone. Our store has become much bigger and offers many more modes for listening. Do we want these songs physically on our computers, taking up hard drive space but linking to our ipods? Do we want to stream new music online as we browse websites? Do we want music downloads from websites or from our peers? Or do we want to make play-lists of our favorite songs to post on our social networking pages? As you can see, it takes a music guide to get you through this muck of online music options.

Myspace (www.myspace.com) quickly became one of the best sources of free music. In fact, many bands shut down their websites completely and relied solely on this social networking site to list their gigs and post new music. You can use their music guide to look for local music, bands that sound like other bands you like or music from a certain genre. On many pages, you can also buy music for 99 cents a song. The benefit of Myspace is the ability to listen to a number of songs by a particular artist, while also gaining access to music news, blogs, videos, photos, tour dates, merchandise and more. The downside is that you can’t usually save these songs on your computer; it’s mostly a streaming site, but sometimes you can save select songs or make them play on your Myspace page with a single click.

Another great resource in our music guide is Pandora Radio (www.pandora.com). This website has been dubbed “the music genome project” because it contains a vast wealth of famous music artists and new independent bands meticulously filed into categories based on melody, harmony, rhythm, instrumentation, arrangement and lyrics. Registration is free and supported by an occasional ad here and there, but users can type in a band or a song they like to get a whole personalized radio station created for them based on their favorites. Users can then give songs a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” to further tailor the station to their interests. The site proves to be a great way to find new music and also buy music, as you can bookmark songs and purchase them through Amazon.

Another indie artist music guide is Amie Street (www.amiestreet.com). This recommendation website works off your preferences and allows you to import data from your iTunes library, your Last FM feed, your Pandora radio preferences and favorite music from Facebook. After analyzing your music preferences, the site will offer similar recommendations, allowing you to rate those recommendations. The benefit is that you can find a lot of new music and buy music legally. The downside is just that you have to buy many of the tracks, although some come as cheap as 2? apiece.

Don’t you just love the thrill of a much-anticipated “coming soon to a theater near you” announcement? Sometimes there are sequels that we’ve been dreaming of, while other times there are TV series remakes that we’ve been pining for. Some people follow actors they love, while others keep an eye on certain filmmakers or screenwriters. Whether you love action, horror, dramas or comedies, there is a motion picture coming out for you in the next year.

You’ll also find a number of top movies coming soon to a home theater near you as well. This month you can be on the look-out for movies TV shows releases like The Office, C.S.I., It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Law and Order, Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives. Finally, those who missed “X-men Origins: Wolverine” in theaters can catch it on DVD. Other recent DVD rentals available include State of Play, Disney’s Earth, Sugar, Duplicity, Fighting, Sunshine Cleaning, The Last House on the Left, Tyson, The Informers, I Love You Man, 17 Again and The Mutant Chronicles.

Movies news also lists new Blu Ray discs that are coming soon. Darren Aronofsky’s masterpiece, “Requiem For A Dream” will be out on Blu Ray this month, with added filmmaker commentaries from Director Darren Aronofsky and Director of Photography Matthew Libatique, a behind-the-scenes featurette, interviews with author Hubert Selby Jr and nine deleted scenes. “Gladiator” will have over four hours of bonus material and will also include an extended version of the motion picture. “Braveheart” also finally arrives in Blu Ray format and proves that it was worth waiting for with loads of interviews, interactive timelines, battle strategy analysis, historical segments and featurettes. “The Watchmen” holds a wonderland of special bonus features, including a first-of-its-kind “Maximum Movie Mode,” which allows the director to stand before you, pointing at two screens behind him — one playing the feature and one showing a behind-the-scenes shot. Trivia, comic comparisons, Watchmen bookmark-able focus points (attached to featurettes), graphic novel discussions, a vigilante documentary and new download content are all on this packed Blu Ray.

There are TV shows movies rumored to be coming soon as well. December 17, 2010 will see the release of the “Green Hornet” motion picture starring Seth Rogen, Stephen Chow and Cameron Diaz and directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, Be Kind Rewind). “Thundercats” voice casting is currently underway for the full-length animated feature, being crafted by Gods of War video game artist Charlie Wen. In other videos news, a 2010 release is being planned for “The A-Team,” which will star Bradley Cooper as Lieutenant Peck, Liam Neeson as Colonel Smith and the UFC’s Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as Mr. T’s iconic character, Baracus. If you can believe it, there is also a 2010 release scheduled for a new rendition of “The Three Stooges,” starring Benicio del Toro as Moe, Paul Giamati as Larry and Jim Carrey to play Curly.

Games such as the Guitar Hero series have inspired lots of people to learn to play the guitar properly , in addition to providing hours of fun. Music themed video games have become very common. The world of gaming keenly anticipates the release of the Battle of the Bands game for the Wii system. The game is right for one player or multi players. The game is to be published by THQ, sometime in 2008, and it has been developed by Planet Moon Studios. Practice makes just right and it may prove addictive! It doesn’t demand any musical knowledge and players of any standard will enjoy it.

A song in a certain genre is played for a short time period and changes from one style to another. The idea behind the game is for different genres of music to battle it out for supremacy. Battle of the Bands contains 30 songs played in five cover versions of different styles. The players must do their best to move the remote in time to the notes. As a result, the total is 150 songs. Players compete against each other, following the notes that appear on the screen. The winning player’s music will be the loudest, drowning out the rest. The player that performs the best will score more points, resulting in their chosen genre being played more.

American Idol’s Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez Head Home

It was a coin toss as far as I was concerned in regards to Jorge and Anoop, they are tied in my view as the worst Idol contestants this year. Jasmine is not one of my favorites, but she does have some vocials.

I am pulling for Danny Gokey, the guy has got a great voice and the heart of a lion.

Gotta laugh at the XXX phone issue that AI has with number 13, seems they own the twelve numbers 1-866-IDOLS-01 through 1-866-IDOLS-12 and a phone sex company owns 1-866-IDOLS-13, last minute scrambling lead to 1-866-IDOLS-36 being used this week lucky contestant 13.

The Incredible Shrinking iPod Shuffle

Apple Downsizes its iPod Shuffle believing that size matters. The third generation iPod Shuffle is due out this week. The iPod Shuffle was already Apple’s smallest iPod, and now they have gone even smaller, cutting this version in half to just about 2 inches long.

They had to remove the buttons in order to get the Shuffle’s size down. The orginal could only hold 240 songs, this new mini version can hold 1,000 songs. The control buttons are now on the ear bud cords. You will also find a cool function called “VoiceOver”, which consists of small audio files loaded onto the player by the most recent version of the iTunes software. Each file contains a computerized voice speaking the title, artist and/or playlist name. The VoiceOver function can do it all in 14 different languages.

Priced at $79, this iPod keeps Apple moving in a direction to dominate the mp3 player world.
