The seventh season will include highlights of some of the auditions that were held in some of the major cities across the country, including Dallas Atlanta, Miami and Philly.  After the premier the regular season will broadcast two times every week, on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s until February 6.  Then the Hollywood round will air on February 12th and 13th and that is when the top 24 American Idol contestants will be named.

The very first episode where the contestants will perform, first featuring the 12 men that have made the final cut will run February 19.  The 12 ladies will sing their hearts out on the next night February 20, the following night is a live show that will announce the results of the first vote.  The top 12 contestants are scheduled to perform on Tuesday, March 11.

This is is surely going to be an exciting one, as more and more people are tuning in to watch one of the most popular TV shows around – American Idol will still be a top rated show for years to come.

What happens in Vegas doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas. Sometimes it goes to many other places afterwards.

This is the case with Celine Dion. She ends her close to five-year run in Vegas on December 15, 2007, to explore new horizons once again, beyond the Nevada desert. This talented singer from Canada is set to launch a forty-five city North American tour in August 2008. She will take her career in a new direction, promoting her new CD along the way.

The Woman in Me is her latest release and it hit the stores in November. The album’s approach returns to some rock-oriented influences of her earlier years and gives her a chance to broaden her repertoire again. She will be on the move beyond North America, as she plans to visit Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe. It seems seeing the world is the logical thing to do after living in a desert for years.

Recently, Celine Dion, 39, received a major entertainment award in Monaco. It recognized her contribution to music and honored her for her overall career. Because of her artistic and commercial success, the singer received the ultimate honor at the World Music Awards in the Mediterranean principality. She accepted the Legend Award from Prince Albert II in Monte Carlo on November 4.

Celine’s Las Vegas show was, and is for a little while longer, an extravagant production. When it closes in December, it will have played to nearly 2.5 million fans in Caesar’s Palace. The original contract for her show, A New Day, was for 100 million dollars and 50% of the profit for three years of performances (subsequently extended). This is quite an accomplishment for the girl from Charlemagne, Quebec who grew up in poverty. She is the youngest of fourteen children born into the family.

The path to Vegas resulted because of her incredible voice and its great power. It can soar to great heights on songs structured for intense emotional impact. It can also reveal its subtle beauty when performing quiet ballads. She has secured for herself, over the years, an international following. She has also maintained her French-speaking audience. Her CD, D’elles, debuted at the top of the Canadian charts upon its May 2007 release.

Celine Dion’s first album came out in 1981 and produced instant success for her. It made her a star in Quebec. In the early 1990s, she gained international fame for her duet with Peabo Bryson on the title track to the movie Beauty and the Beast. This song warmed filmgoer’s hearts and won an Academy Award for Best Song.

As well, forever etched in the minds of moviegoers is the theme song she sang from the 1997 film Titanic. My Heart Will Go On was a worldwide chart-topper that still tugs at the heartstrings whenever heard.

From humble beginnings, Celine Dion has seen her career grow in extraordinary ways. Her vocal talents have made it possible for her to perform in state-of-the art venues and for unique audiences. She had the honor of performing at the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia in 1996.

How does a singer achieve superstar status as Celine Dion has? Selling over 200 million records worldwide is one way. That’s how many she has sold to date in her career; and the number will certainly grow as her career enters a new phase.

Celine Dion’s win at the World Music Awards in Monaco earlier this month is not her first honor from this group. She already has an award from WMA for being the world’s best-selling female artist of all-time.

As new challenges lie ahead, Celine Dion is ready to see the world again. Maybe the past years in Las Vegas have made her a bit stir crazy. Maybe it’s time to hit the open road and spread the gift of her voice city to city, one night at a time. From what’s on the horizon, according to her 2008 itinerary, it seems that’s exactly what she has planned.

So just how much music is in the catalog of Sir Elton John, who has been turning out hits for all ages on a regular basis for decades?  The March 26th release will encompass 30 or more of his albums, with more to come.  That’s a career spanning hundreds of songs.

In a mirror move, the recently knighted singer has also announced the release of several of his most popular songs as ringtones.  He has yet to announce which cellular carrier will be the provider for these.  You can catch the public celebration of his birthday in his show at Madison Square Garden in New York.  You can check back on iTunes anytime after March 26th for the online music downloads of his catalog.

If you attended any concerts in the 1980’s, chances are you had a chance to secure The Police tickets. The Police was a band that was simply iconic during that time period, and some of their singles and albums were among the best-selling releases of all time. After many years of engaging in individual efforts, this legendary band is getting back together for another upcoming tour, exciting millions of long-time fans everywhere. A look at their history will help to explain how they achieved a status that few acts have ever experienced.

The Beginning

The band began to come together in 1977, when drummer Stewart Copeland left his former band and joined with Sting to begin to work on some songs. Each of them shared a heavy influence from the world of reggae, and that shared vision led to many of the tones and beats in their upcoming tracks.

After bouncing around for a few years, the band ultimately began to gain acclaim by touring Australia, which was the first country in which they gained a loyal following. Their live shows were widely-attended, and for the first time, The Police tickets were in demand. Their first album release, Outlandos d’Amour, was released in 1978 under a very tight budget and much struggle, but the release ultimately hit several charts and gained some fame for the band.

The following year, the band released Reggatta de Blanc, and this release was even more successful than their initial cut, as the band had the backing of a big-time record label at this point and enjoyed the fruits of a much more highly-budgeted publicity campaign. Their third release, Zenyatta Mondatta, which came out in 1980, and it was another success. Another album, Ghost in the Machine, released in 1981, climbed to the top of the charts in 1981, and all of this success set the stage for their next album, which ultimately cemented The Police as legends.

Superstardom

In 1983, the band released an album that would go a long way towards defining the music of that time period. Synchronicity was an album that shot to the top of the charts in several countries around the world, contained several singles that rose to the top of the charts, and made the band a household name in nearly every home that had a radio.

The band staged a worldwide tour in furtherance of this album, but after it competed in 1984, the band members slowly-but-surely began to move in separate directions. Although they never “officially” broke up, they never recorded another full-length studio album.

Results of Success

The band got together every now and then for a few benefit concerts, as Sting was and is extremely active with several causes, and ultimately, The Police were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, and several documentaries were produced that traced the steps of the band towards their ultimate stardom and fame.

In 2007, The Police will be getting together one more time for another tour. This tour is being met with a high degree of anticipation, and the mere fact that The Police tickets are available once again is sure to fill stadiums around the world.

It is beyond me why anyone would give them this or the other Grammy nods, when the Dixie Chicks have clearly said they hate country music and don’t want to be associated with it.  Not to mention all the political bad mouthing they (she) has done. Sure I don’t agree with most of what our current president has done, but I hate when public figures get on there soap box and give their option on current events.

They are entertainers their job is to entertain us and help remove us from the daily trials and tribulations the world brings us everyday.  I do praise those public figures that take on issues such as Live Aid and Farm Aid.  They are truly using their stardom in a positive way to actually make a difference – they are not just flappin their lips to be heard.

OK now on to more positive notes regarding the Grammy’s last night.

The 49th Annual Grammy Awards did have some great moments; The Police Reunion to kick off the show was great.  Sting showed a strong vocal performance of their classic hit “Roxanne”. Rumor has it this reunion will lead to a 2007 tour – I sure hope so.

Red Hot Chili Peppers locked in four Grammy’s, and a gracious Mary J. Blige took home a surprising three Grammy’s.

Beyoncé  belted out “Listen,” from the Dreamgirls soundtrack. Backed up with a full string section, Beyoncé powered through the songs superb lyrics making this one of the best performances of the night.

Justin Timberlake had my undivided attention with his “What Goes Around Comes Around” until that moment when he jumped up from the piano and grabbed a mini-camera and stuck it in his own face – that was a showstopper for me.  Wonder if Britney was watching.

Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts teamed up for an incredible tribute to some classic tunes.  They covered songs from Bob Wills and the Eagles. Carrie paid her compliments to the great Wills by performing his “San Antonio Rose” while a video screen showed Wills. Rascal Flatts the followed up with a scorching edition of “Hotel California”. Then it was Carrie again with a smooth performance of “Desperado,”

Smokey, Lionel and Christina put some Soul in to this years Grammy’s.  With Chris Brown tying it all together.  Brown’s entrance and performance was full of energy while singing “Run It”.  Smokey Robinson sang his legendary “Tracks Of My Tears” followed by Richie 80’s hit ballad “Hello”.  Christina Aguilera gave tribute to the distinguished James Brown performing his “It’s A Man’s World”.

Then there was Shakira  - wow what can I say, those “Hips Don’t Lie”.

Gnarls Barkley’s brilliant inclusion of two escapees from “Fantasy Island”.  Dressed as airline pilots, from approximately 1978, Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse began performed “Crazy” center stage in the round in the middle of the audience. Cee-Lo then headed to the central stage, meeting up with Danger Mouse, who was playing the piano.  Backed by a large orchestra, an orange-jumpsuit dressed female choir and a kicking rock foursome.

Most people know Miley Cyrus as teen pop star Hannah Montana on the popular Disney series.  But did you know that neither Miley nor Hannah is her real name?  When she was born on November 23, 1992, her parents gave her the name Destiny Hope.  How do you get Miley out of Destiny, you may ask.  Well there is a simple explanation.  Her notorious country singer father, Billy Ray Cyrus, nicknamed her Miley, short for Smiley, the day she was born, and the name just stuck.
 
Apart from being a huge television star, Miley is just a normal kid.  She has two brothers, two sisters, and two cats.  Because Miley’s acting career took off so well, the whole family has moved from Nashville to Los Angeles.  Before acting, the teen idol was an award-winning cheerleader.  Nowadays, she works eight or nine hours on the set for Hannah Montana.  However, she is still required by law to spend at least three hours on schoolwork each day.  There is a tutor on set, but Miley shifts a lot between acting and schooling throughout the day.
 
Miley’s career is flourishing nicely.  She has even been compared to that of Hilary Duff.  Also, she is currently working on her own album, a collection of 12 songs all of which she either wrote herself or co-wrote.  This album will not be under the name of Hannah Montana, nor will it be following in her father’s country footsteps.  This one is all her own!
