First Ringtone to Go Platinum

The first music ringtone to go platinum is a surprise: the theme from the 1970s television show The Dukes of Hazard by Waylon Jennings. I knew you could download plenty of music ringtones and ringtunes online, just like downloading online music files, but who knew a television theme would be the most popular?
The official name of the song (and the ringtone and ringtune) is “Theme from The Dukes of Hazard (Good ‘Ol Boys)”, and it has been downloaded over a million times. The song file is available as a ringtone (the polyphonic instrumental kind of ring) or a ringtune (a 30 second long mp3 clip of a song used as the ring on your mobile phone). The ringtune has been the most popular version so far.
It was also a surprise that a country song went platinum. Some have guessed that free ringtone downloads of other types of music, like hip-hop, are more prevalent than Country. Others have suggested that Country music’s large market share is responsible for the success - it has a huge nationwide fan base, after all.
