Perter Gabriel, a investor and supporter of the new free music downloads service called We7. The service will provide members with free MP3 tracks with an advertisement just before the song. After four weeks from the date of downloading the song – the music lover can download a version minus the advertisement.
So music lovers get free music and the advertisers pay the Artists – this service could be the biggest legal free music downloading service to hit the market.
We7 officially launches June 2007 but has already been shocking the money of the music industry. Major music labels have been experimenting with DRM free downloads, but We7 still could break through and be a major driving force behind free legal music downloads.
Gabriel said, “We7 provides an artist the opportunity to build a new source of income from their music.â€Â The number two download service in the united states, eMusic has help indie bands succeed with DRM free downloads that cost only 25 cents. The number one music downloading service is of coarse iTunes.
No major music label has signed on to the We7 service to date. The service still plans a world wide launch with only a few thousand tracks. The UK is the current target market that We7 has sought to concur. With a technology called “MediaGraft†We7 will place a 10 second ad before a song when a user first downloads, then one month later a clean or advertisement free version can be downloaded – FREE of charge.
