Only 3 of the top 30 Christmas Songs from 2000s

With Christmas behind us I thought I’d look at the 30 most popular Christmas songs this year. I was amazed to see only 3 songs from the 2000’s. The traditional classic Christmas songs from the mid to early 1900’s are still the most popular. A few from the 1800’s and just one from the 1700’s (The 12 Days of Christmas).

I understand Jingle Bells (1857), Winter Wonderland (1934) making the top ten without question, but how does All I Want for Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth) (1944) make it to number 19? Although Santa Clause is Coming to Town (1934) is number 14 is the traditional version, not the classic Bruce Springsteen version (1985) that is my favorite.

I guess am glad that the classic Christmas songs are still so popular, these are the songs I grew up singing and I am glad they are the songs my kids are growing up on. While I do not mind seeing a few songs from the 2000’s that are covers of the classics, like Carrie Underwood’s version of Last Christmas, which is pushing Wham’s version down and hopefully out of the most popular Christmas songs – thank goodness.
